Polydactyly

PolydactylPresence of extra fingers or toes is called polydactyly can be seen as pedunculated additional digits with no bony connections, but in some cases the abnormal finger may have bones and tendons connecting it with rest of the hand / foot. Plastic surgery can remedy this type of deformity. But there are many patients who are deprived from surgical treatment due to superstition of their parents. Children with polydactyly have difficulty wearing shoes and gloves because of the abnormal finger. More importantly they suffer psychologically especially when they go to school. Other finger abnormalities include Syndactyly (joined adjacent fingers), brachydactyly (short finger) and constriction rings.
